From the Director – Renovation & Expansion Moving Forward
It’s been a couple months since we shared plans for building projects at all three locations. We’ve been busy moving all three along and wanted to share a brief update on progress and timelines.
Gulf Breeze Renovation
We’re five weeks into our floor-to-ceiling renovation of the Community YMCA at Gulf Breeze, and the project is moving forward quickly. The “hard” ceiling framing is complete, and electrical rough-in is beginning. We should have an inspection at the end of the first week of October. Drywall is slated to start next, with the lay-in ceiling beginning in the middle of the month.
If you’d like to keep up with what’s happening, you can do so virtually. Every two weeks or so, we’re posting a new one-minute video that shows the project in its latest phase. You can see that video here on our website or posted on our social media pages.
New Space Upstairs at Bear Levin Studer
The departure of The Andrews Institute (upstairs area, just next to the elevator) has opened 4,000 square feet of space. For now, much of this space is housing equipment we temporarily moved out of Gulf Breeze to expedite that project. However, what was the Andrews lobby is open and available for member use now. This is a great area for stretching, floor work, HIIT workouts, and more. We are currently in the predesign phase for a re-imagined use of this area, which will be a combination of expanded fitness and new program space.
Pullum Expansion
We have signed the contract for our new 4,000-square-foot modular childcare facility, which will be erected in the area toward the rear of the property, next to the current multipurpose room. This new building will provide dedicated space for our afterschool and day camp programs, freeing up much-needed indoor area for wellness and other programs. Phase 1 also includes remodeling our locker rooms, which will follow the installation of the modular building, and adding 2,000 square feet to our fitness floor.
