May From The Directors

From the Directors

We haven’t seen most of you for several weeks now. And we really miss you.

Our Ys were designed to be filled with members and activity, so quiet, empty buildings just don’t feel right. But right now, we’re no different from anyone else as we consider what our new “normal” will be over the coming weeks and months.

We know many of you are eager to get back to your Y routine, while others are a bit nervous. We don’t have all the answers, but we are preparing for our re-opening. Here’s what we can share now:

  • In his press conference on the afternoon of April 29, Gov. DeSantis outlined Phase 1 of re-opening the state. His guidelines do not include gyms as being able to open at this time. We will continue to closely monitor official news from his office about when we will be allowed to welcome members back into our facilities.
  • We are also following news from city and county officials that may further define guidelines for our local community.
  • Finally, we are talking with other Ys to share ideas and strategies that can benefit us all.
  • Phase 1 will be a simplified operational plan. During this phase, you can expect some programs and services will not return yet as we test new processes. You can also expect to see social distancing measures and protective strategies that businesses everywhere are implementing.
  • Phase 2 will include more programs and amenities as we gradually expand the services we can offer.
  • Phase 3 will be a return to full operation, although some of our precautions may remain in place longer, until our community and country have passed through this public health crisis.

As we consider all of these information sources, the safety of our members and staff are now, as always, our top priority.

Our leadership team is working on a detailed plan that will guide our re-opening in three phases.

We will follow guidelines imposed by public officials and recommended by the CDC and health and science professionals, but we also will make additional decisions based on what is best for our Y and the people who work and play here. While we want to open our doors as soon as practical, we will not do so until we are prepared to do so as safely and prudently as possible.

Please stay tuned to our website, social media, email communication, and the incoming phone message at both branches. We will continue to update you as information is available.

And thank you to everyone who has chosen to #staywithus because we are #strongertogether.

Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
