November - Exercising Together

Fall into fitness with us at the Betty J. Pullum Family YMCA by trying out a new class. We are now offering Yogalates on Mondays at 4 pm. Yogalates is inspired by yoga and Pilates, just like the name suggests. This class focuses on harnessing the physical and mental benefits of both practices.

Yogalates was created in 1997 by a personal trainer, Jonathan Urla, and later developed and popularized by Louise Solomon. This class is an evolving method that is continually adapting with new research and methodology to improve the functional movement and whole body health of members.

It utilizes the yoga’s focus on mind and body awareness, strength, stamina, flexibility, and balance. The practice adds Pilates techniques to improve posture and create a strong, stable foundation for movement. You will see some popular yoga postures like downward-facing dog, warrior poses with Sun Salutations and stretching paired with intense core and abdominal strength exercises. Some poses require the use of props such as blocks, resistance bands and weights. Yogalates may also feature breathing exercises, guided mindfulness and relaxation. All levels are welcome, and modifications are offered.

It’s a great way to start of your week of fitness and whole body wellness. No sign up required. You can bring your own mat or use one of the mats in the multipurpose room. Hope to see you soon!
