September Program Spotlight

What’s New? Starting Sept. 8, we will be adding karate back to the Tuesday/Thursday night schedule. This is a great opportunity for members and participants of all ages to engage in a fun practice that teaches respect and self-discipline.

What is karate? Karate is a Japanese martial art whose physical aspects seek the development of defensive and counter-attacking body movements. The themes of traditional karate training are self-defense and counter-strikes, though its mental and moral aspects target the overall improvement of the individual.

Why should I enroll in karate? Karate, as well as all martial arts, is an invaluable concept that helps people reach their potential, including self-discipline, goal setting, self-defense, dedication, and overall (physical, emotional, and mental) development.

Discipline: Martial arts teaches a code of behavior. It teaches self-discipline and respect.

Goal setting: Through martial arts, adults and children alike can learn how to set realistic, achievable goals that translate to their personal lives.

Confidence: When a child learns a new skill or move, it immediately boosts their confidence. Watch how eager they are to show you and teach you! One of the most important aspects of learning a martial art is the confidence that comes with being able to defend one’s self. That inner confidence travels with them on and off the training floor.
