Smart Start

We’re one month into 2019. You’ve set your goals and made plans, probably in various areas of your life where you want to “step it up.” If you’re reading this newsletter, chances are you have created some new health goals or are renewing your commitment to your fitness journey. At the Y, we are here to help you stay on track and get you to your best self.

At the Bear Levin Studer and Betty J. Pullum branches, we offer a fantastic tool to help you get focused and stay there: our Smart Start program. Have you heard about it? This program really lives up to its name. The Smart Start program offers members up to four sessions with a trained wellness coach who will help you identify your health and wellness goals and create strategies to pursue those goals.

Why should you take advantage of Smart Start? Members who attend their first Smart Start session within the first two weeks of joining the Y are six times more likely to achieve their goals. Without the proper support system, 85% of people who try an exercise program alone will not succeed. Even if you joined the Y a few months ago, you can still take advantage of this valuable program we offer. Maybe you’ve had an injury and are returning and have some temporary limitations; or perhaps you aren’t satisfied with your current program or have gotten stuck in a rut and become bored. Smart Start is for you! Regardless of where you are in your wellness journey, our coaches will help you make the most of your Y membership by helping you create a personalized road map for success.

This is how it works: Smart Start includes four wellness coaching sessions, a value of $150, but it's included with your membership with no additional cost to you

  • Sign up at the Welcome Center or with any Wellness team member
  • Your first appointment with your Wellness Coach is a planning session. This will take about an hour-identifying your interests, goals, challenges and experience. Come dressed for activity, because we'll get started moving.
  • Your second and third appointments are teaching sessions where the coach will instruct you on all the elements of your personal program. Complete the third session and you will receive a $25 credit toward a Y program of your choice. You should plan 30 minutes for each of these appointments.
  • Your fourth appointment is a chance to evaluate progress, how things are going and make adjustments. You should plan 15-30 minutes for this session.

If you don’t know where to start or how to begin again, Smart Start is your answer. With trained Wellness Coaches to guide your journey, you have every chance to make this your year of success.
