November - Mission Moment

It’s been a whirlwind of a month, and we’re grateful for everyone that helped us make all of this possible. Take a look at what your YMCA has been up to.

Sept 26– The Last Mile/YMCA Running Club

At the end of September, our running coach Jenny started leading this running group in preparation for the Last Mile 5k in November. There’s still time to join us and to register for the Last Mile 5k.

Oct 26– Little Pumpkins Jamboree

This year we welcomed over 300 children with special needs to the Little Pumpkins Jamboree at Olive Baptist Church, along with their teachers, teacher assistants, and bus drivers.

The Escambia County School District and ESE Department identified the children, who represented 18 elementary schools in the county. They provided bus transportation to Olive’s campus, where businesses, civic groups, nonprofit agencies and church teams had created themes such as Barbie, superheroes, and MarioKart. They built balloon arches, prepared hands-on activities, and loaded up the treats. Everyone ended up in the Recreation Outreach Center, where the Olive team provided a kid-friendly lunch, and the children made crafts, had their faces painted, and enjoyed balloon art.

See video highlights of this year's event.

Oct 28- Trunk or Treat at BJP

The Pullum Branch held its annual Trunk or Treat in the Y parking lot, welcoming costumed kids of all ages. Thanks to all our "trunks"for your great themes and for handing our treats to the kids!

Oct 28- Halloween fun at swim lessons

Instructors brought the joy of Halloween to swim lessons by dressing up and teaching the participants. Children learned how to be safe in a boat. How to save a friend and even learned why a pumpkin floats in the water.
