December Member Spotlight

Deshaun Taylor

Deyshaun Tyler is an Aircraft Maintainer with the Air Force. He is also an active member and volunteer at the Betty J. Pullum Family YMCA. When he moved to Navarre four years ago, he joined the Y with his mom. Initially, his membership goal was to begin to lift weights and play basketball. However, he needed volunteer hours, so he turned to the Y. Coaching sports seemed to be a good place to start.

Once he started coaching, he never stopped. Now Deyshaun coaches both spring and fall soccer, basketball, flag football, and T-ball. The bonds he has built with the children is what keeps him coaching all these games. It’s important to Deyshaun to teach the kids respect, while having fun, and he also enjoys watching them succeed. Youth continue to return season after season to learn and play under Deyshaun’s positive, fun and enthusiastic coaching style.

When asked what advice he would give new members coming to the Y, he said, “Put your kids in sports!” Deyshaun recommends the Y to all of his friends. Always looking for a way to bring them in, he invites friends to play basketball and volleyball.

Deyshaun is a great example of how the Y impacts people in many ways as a place to workout, to volunteer, to mentor youth, to engage with friends and family. The Y is a place to play and belong.

Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
