Philip, aka "CoachKlein"

Have you ever said, or heard someone say, “It takes so much work and time to get into shape, and no time and no effort to lose your shape”? Yes, it rings true doesn’t it? Life circumstances and all manner of situations can derail our focus on staying healthy and fit.

Meet Philip Klein, aka "Coach Klein." For about two years, he has been an active member of the Bear Levin Studer YMCA. He started by attending a group fitness class - R.I.P.P.E.D.. Now, in any given week, Klein comes in about four times to work out on the wellness floor or attend a group fitness class. He's been a member of the Y for the past four years, but it's only in the last two years that he got focused and serious about getting “back into shape.” Klein realized he had let life’s demands and circumstances get his physical health off track, and it was affecting his life.

Coming from a 25-year Navy background in which he helped personnel pass their personal fitness test, Coach Klein was familiar with health and wellness activities. A self-admitted out-of-shape “senior student,” he knew just starting was key. Klein attended that first R.I.P.P.E.D. class and kept going -adding other group fitness classes to his regimen. “I began attending classes about a year ago and have improved my overall fitness and flexibility immensely. My friends noticed a remarkable improvement in my attitude also.”

Coach Klein continues to enjoy a variety of group fitness classes offered at the Bear Levin Studer Y. He has found the instructors knowledgeable and trustworthy to lead and guide students in a supportive and safe manner. He likes the fact that the instructors get to know their students and are aware of their strengths, abilities and attitudes.

Whether you’ve been a member at the Y for one year or 10, if you need a new start, we are here for you. There are a variety of ways you can “begin again” - in the pool, in a group fitness class, or on the wellness floor. We have staff that will guide and support you where you are.

Remember, starting is the key.
