May Program Spotlight

Summer is upon us, a great time to go to the pool or the beach. Are you ready for the fun? Here are some questions to consider before heading to the water: Do you and your children know how to swim? Does the pool or beach you are going to have certified lifeguards to help? The YMCA wants to help you safely prepare for summer fun.

At the YMCA of Northwest Florida, we offer swim lessons for all ages, starting from six-month-olds and going all the way to adults. We start with water acclimation and then build on our progress toward the two benchmark skills for safety: the swim-float-swim and the jump-push-turn-grab. As we build your or your child’s strength in the pool, we build confidence to be a great swimmer. Once we get the basic benchmarks of safety, we add strokes and more endurance to your or your child’s swimming ability. We strive to make sure you and your children are safe in the water and ultimately have a love for the water.

We believe that swim lessons are just like school and homework: You should always practice your skills when you are not in lessons, whether you come to one of our branches to swim or join us at the City's outdoor pools. We will be managing Hunter Pool and Roger Scott Pool again this summer. Both pools offer lap lanes, splash pools for young children and a big pool for the older children to play in. Each pool has two or more slides for you to enjoy as well.

So, grab your bathing suits, towels, and sunscreen and join us this summer at the pools!

Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
