Since March 23,your YMCA has been diligently working with our friends at Council on Aging to take care of our homebound seniors in our two-county region. Utilizing our child care vans, provided by Impact 100, we have been able to deliver 500 meals in the past month.
In addition, the YMCA has also been providing any additional assistance to other people who are in need through a food drive at the Pullum YMCA and through special deliveries to individual members where needed.
“Delivering meals for the Council on Aging has meant that the YMCA is still very much involved with the community," said Melanie Paul, a wellness coach who has been driving the van. "People forget that we have these partnerships and these opportunities to reach out at times like these. It gives us an opportunity to be visible, to be helpful and to carry on the mission of the Y.”
Fellow coach Giorgio Trane has also been driving. “As a young adult male, I realize I take lot of things for granted," Giorgio said. "Helping these people by bringing a meal each day and seeing them smile is a big deal. It makes things easier for them and lets them know that somebody cares about them.”
