May - Staff Spotlight

As we bid farewell to Josh in a few weeks, we welcome back a familiar face- Ryan!

Meet Ryan Ward

A returning staff member, Ryan joins us again after teaching English in Shanghai, China, over the past four years.

  • How long have you worked at the YMCA?

I worked at the YMCA from 2011-2018 – at the old YMCA, BLS, Pullum, and at Northeast. I left for China in 2018 and returned this past month.

  • What is your role at the YMCA?

Engagement Staff member

  • What is the most interesting part of your job?

Meeting with people from the community and getting to learn more about their story.

  • If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

I would be rhino. That was my nickname as a child, and I have always loved them.

  • What do you really do at the YMCA?

I give tours, help them with any issues they may have. I bond with new and existing members.

Meet Josh Rodriguez.

A child of a Navy man, born in Jacksonville. A lover of music, Josh is percussion instructor at Pace High School. Josh also plays guitar, drums, percussion, the piano, and the triangle.

Josh will be attending George Stone in the electrical apprenticeship program next month. His last day with the Bear Levin Studer YMCA will be May 19.

We'll miss you, Josh!

  • How long have you worked at the YMCA?

Since May 2022.

  • What is your role at the YMCA?

Engagement Team Member

  • What is the most interesting part of your job?

With having such a diverse community of members, I enjoy having conversations and learning about each member.

  • If you could be any animal, what would it be and why?

I would be a wolf because wolves are big dogs. They are soft but also aggressive. Perfect balance!

  • What do you really do at the YMCA?

Help members with accounts, register for programs, give tours, and of course … laundry. (my favorite!)
