May - Program Corner

The Family Adventure Guides parent/child program provides opportunities for families to engage in activities that promote nature, family, fun, and community. Benefits of the program include:

  • Expanded awareness of spirit, mind, and body.
  • Enhanced quality of family time together.
  • Emphasis on the vital role that parents play in the growth and development of their children.

When Family Adventure Guides officially started in March, it was full steam ahead. We now have a Parent Volunteer Guide. Cari Anderson and her daughter McKenzie were among the first families that joined in February and have been a big help in formulating ideas for programming and outreach for the community.

Since then, we've been getting the word out about the program on social media and various tabling events in the community. We've also started monthly programming, with our first event being ice skating at the Bay Center on March 12 and kayaking at Bayview Community Center on April 22.

We've also started monthly Parent Meetings to give families a chance to learn what Family Adventure Guides is about and to meet the other families who want to join. But honestly, it will be a while before this program runs like a well-oiled machine. With this program still relatively new, membership is steadily rising. In the meantime, our Parent Volunteer Guides and I are actively working to ensure that this program is not only a haven for families to come together and form memories with one another, but also further develops the community in Pensacola.
