May - From the Director's Desk

It’s May, and summer is right around the corner, which means it’s time to get in and out on the water. Here at the Y, we’ve got you covered with swim lessons for all ages; water fitness; recreational swimming; two swim teams – the Zarzaur Zingrays in Pensacola and the Wahoos in Navarre; and another year of managing the city pools in Pensacola. Here’s everything you need to know to stay safe and have fun in the water at the Y this season.

Swim Lessons

  • At the Bear Levin Studer Y, lessons are ongoing. A new weekday session begins today, with the next session starting June 5. Options are two days a week for four weeks or once a week for eight. See dates and times for sessions.
  • At the Pullum Y, the first summer session begins May 15. Sessions meet four times a week for two weeks. See dates and times for sessions.
  • Registration for all swim lessons is online and opens two weeks before the session starts. Cost is $50/session for household members and $100/session for program participants. Lessons are available for all ages.

Zarzaur Zingrays

It’s the second year for Zingrays, with presenting sponsor Zarzaur Law, P.A. Launched last summer, this team provides a developmental opportunity for swimmers who have basic competence in the water but who may not be ready for a competitive school or community team, or for families who may not be able to afford a traditional swim team. Under the direction of Bonnie Steffensmeier, Regional Aquatics Director, the Zarzaur Zingrays will serve youth ages 4-18. The season runs May 30-July 29 and will feature six meets. Cost is $100 for the season, due to the Zarzaur sponsorship. Register in person at the Bear Levin Studer Y. Learn more about the Zarzaur Zingrays.

Wahoo Swim Team

Coach Mary Moorer will again lead the Wahoo Swim Team at our Pullum Family Y in Navarre. This team is for ages 4 and up who can pass the swim test. Practices are starting now, and the team will run through Aug. 31. Cost for the season is $215 for members and $375 for participants. Register online. Learn more about the Wahoos Swim Team.

Water Fitness and Recreational Swim

  • The Pullum YMCA pool opens today, with daily water fitness classes and recreational and lap swimming available.
