March Member Spotlight

James Johnson is a local pastor at NorthStone Baptist Church in northwest Pensacola. James and his family joined in early 2019, as he set out on an adventure to lose weight. Today he is down 64 pounds down!

Feeling good, his adventure has shown him a lot and has taught him about the benefits of a healthy diet and regular activity. He has learned that food is more than about fun and enjoyment, it is about fuel. Like most of us, he used to have those two reversed. As James puts it, “I have learned to love the foods that love me, and hate the foods that hate me.”

James has also learned the importance of staying active. You can find him in the BLS YMCA about 4-5 days a week, usually on the Bubba Watson Foundation Basketball Courts. While weight loss was a major benefit of this journey, he has also enjoyed the benefits of regular exercise; “With as stressed out as our world is, we all need more serotonin!”

If James could offer any piece of advice to someone who is just starting, he would tell them, “Remember that you’re stronger than you think you are!”

When James is not at the YMCA, he is involved in Christian ministry with his church family or he is spending time with his wife and boys.

Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
