How long have you worked with the Y?
- Seven months
What is your role at the YMCA?
- Summer Camp Director at the Northeast Branch
What is the most interesting part of your job?
- The measurable growth from our people. We get children from all kinds of households - with that in mind, we aim to be the constant. Through the programs within our Summer Camp experience, we aim to consistently lead our campers to being better people. Every game, every activity, and every discussion is motivated by a core value of the Y. We’ve found that the kids who walk in on their first day with us are marginally different by the time they exit our program - and as cliched as that is to say, it’s authentic. I’ve got a four-year-old who couldn’t keep track of his lunch box, his backpack, or anything for that matter on his first day this summer. That same child was so excited to tell me about the list he went home and laminated to keep him accountable for his stuff. That’s what I mean when I say measurable growth.
If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
- An eagle. I’m terrified of heights, but if I were an eagle, I wouldn’t be.
What do your really do at the YMCA?
- I wear a lot of hats here at the Y. I’m a lifeguard. I’m a host & DJ. I’m an accountant. I’m a counselor when the world is ending. I’m a shoe-tying specialist. I’m a juice-box distributor. I’m a parent’s assistant. I'm a paint-on-the-wall remover. I’m a mirror for self-reflection when needed. I’m a sticky-note guru. Most importantly, I’m thankful for the Y for trusting me with all of these responsibilities
