July From the Director

Thanks to all of our members who have stayed with the Y during these last few months. Working together, we have kept our Y strong for our members and the broader community. As we move forward, here’s a preview of changes we have planned to begin on Monday, July 6.The following changes apply to both branches unless otherwise noted. As always, these plans are subject to change as our overall community situation changes.

We are adding an extra hours to our schedule on weekends. Both branches will now be open until 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The Bear Levin Studer Ywill also open at noon on Sundays.Nationwide Members are welcome at our branches.

We have suspended temperature checks upon entry and are instead asking members to self-identify if they have any symptoms that would make it unsafe for them to visit the Y. In keeping with increased local and state guidance, we now expect members to wear a mask when entering and leaving the Y and when moving about common areas. Masks are not necessary while actively exercising, as long as appropriate social distancing is maintained.

In our pools, we have removed participant limits and will operate at full capacity. This includes the Hunter Pool and Roger Scott Pool. Water fitness classes continue, with no reservations required. Swim lessons are back at the Pullum Branch and will resume at the Bear Levin Studer Branch on July 6. Registration for future classes will be ongoing.

Pickleball will return to the gymnasium schedule at the Bear Levin Studer Y, with two hours a day reserved for play. Both branches are increasing capacity in group exercise classes by adding more classes to our in-person schedule, while retaining some virtual and outdoor options. Our new schedules will be available on our website and mobile app by this weekend.

KidZone will no longer require reservations. Parents may use KidZone for the established one-hour blocks. We will enforce the same overall limits and ratios. Our experience from the past month indicates that we have the capacity to meet our current demand within these limits, although parents may experience a wait.

In our wellness department, we will resume some individual services. If you need additional support, you can receive anything from a simple orientation, to a coaching session (in person or virtually), to a complete personal training workout.

A few services and amenities are still on hold:

  • No outside guests or visitors.
  • No steam room or sauna at the Bear Levin Studer Y. We have not received any guidance on how to safely re-open these areas. At this time, these are closed indefinitely, and we do not have an anticipated opening date.
  • No basketball yet, either. We are considering ways to bring basketball back into our Ys, but we have no expected date yet.
  • No coffee service.

Our “What to Expect at the Y” will be updated and available for your reference this weekend. As always, we appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation as we move forward with safety and care.

Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
