Based on her energy level and zeal, you might not know that Sheila VanFossan is approaching age 71. Health and wellness have been an essential part of Sheila's life. She has also been weight training for nearly 30 years.
She is a Pensacola native and was a member of Pensacola’s first female surf club, Seacoast Surf, while in high school. She left Pensacola for college, got married to a Navy pilot, and enjoyed a career that originated with Pan Am airlines. Sheila is also an artist. You can see some of her murals inside the Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA.
“I feel like my art is a contribution to a place I love," she said. "It is my part in making the Y a great place.”
Sheila likes the feeling she gets when she
arrives at the Y. “I am greeted by lovely people that notice when you are
not here.” Having a facility that offers such a variety of healthy living
options is important for Sheila. She plays pickleball, participates in classes, and lifts weights on the wellness floor. “I feel so good coming here, so I want to be
here!”
