With the new year comes new goals. Here are some ways to make a healthy start in 2022.

1. Sit less and move more.

A sedentary life style can lead to a number of health issues. Take the time to get up and move. Taking the time to sit less and move more is an easy and attainable goal to fit into your lifestyle.

2. Cut back on sweetened beverages.

Though quitting sweetened beverages can be tough, the benefits are well worth it. Start with cutting back a little at a time. Decreasing your intake may help you kick the habit for good.

3. Get more quality sleep.

Don’t forget the importance of quality sleep. Lack of sleep may increase one’s risk of heart disease and depression. Decreasing your screen time, cutting back on caffeine, and getting to bed at a reasonable hour are some ways to help improve your sleep quality.

4. Find a physical activity that you enjoy.

They say the best workout is the one that you’ll do. Find something that keeps you inspired to keep moving.

5. Spend more time outside.

Let’s go for a walk outside! Increasing more time outdoors can improve your health by relieving stress and increasing your vitamin D intake.

6. Stop negative body talk.

Speaking negatively to yourself can lead to feelings of shame. Make it a goal to engage in positive self talk. Give yourself that pep talk, and take the time to look at how far you’ve come.

7. Take more ‘me time’ and practice self-care.

Taking time for yourself is not selfish. Remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Make sure to take the time and let yourself recharge, regather, regroup. Self-care does not have to elaborate or time consuming. It can simply mean just taking a few minutes to stop and do something for yourself.

Sit less and move more, get up and take a walk, and remember to get some sleep! Making some minor changes to your lifestyle can lead to a healthier lifestyle.
