Exercising Together

Off to a Great Start! Have You Tried This?

The benefits of Pilates, Core and More & other mind/body classes at the Y!

You may have started this year with some hesitation regarding group fitness, but now you’re in the groove, and feeling more confident. The first part of this year you’ve made connections, created some benchmarks, and maintained motivation toward achieving your goals. You are off to a great start! Let’s keep it going! The Bear Levin Studer Y group fitness schedule offers a diverse selection of classes that are challenging, fun and motivating. Headed into the second half, I invite you to level up and try one of our Pilates style classes.

Pilates is a method of exercise that enhances the connection of the mind and body through concentrated movements. Unlike a BODY PUMP class, Pilates uses the body’s strength, flexibility and coordination to the max. This class teaches you to pay attention to the body and focus on the movement. The mind-body connection in the Pilates method is built on these six principles: breathing, concentration, control, centering, precision and flowing movements. Pilates is an ideal format for individuals who want to strengthen the abs, back, hips and glutes. Once you get into the rhythm, you will start to appreciate the challenging low-impact, “burn oh so good” movements with each class.

Learning the method and movement of Pilates will not only benefit you in everyday life, but also will build more awareness in your current fitness regimen. Our schedule offers Pilates, Soul Body Barre, Soul Body Barre Unhitched, Ballet Barre, and Barre Conditioning. These classes are not gender specific, and the instructors welcome all levels of participants. I encourage you to add Pilates or any other mind-body class to your list of classes. It’s likely to increase motivation and help you get over any mental and physical plateaus. Remember, you’re off to great start, now let’s keep it going!
