December - From The Director's Desk

It starts today – renovations and updates to the Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA.

The best news? Under our current schedule, working closely with our project manager, we expect that the Y will remain open throughout the next five weeks, and all work will be completed by Jan. 7. Individual areas will be closed or roped off as needed during this time.

Here are more details on what you can expect:

The biggest impact will be felt in the Aquatic Center, which will be completely unavailable to members for most, if not all, of December. The lap pool will be drained, replastered, and refilled. Built-in benches will be added to the steam room, and wall tile will be installed. (project time: throughout December)

The Activity Room – where demo has already begun – is closed to members. This room will be renovated to become our new Spinning room, and we are getting new Spinning bikes. (project time: early-late December)

A dehumidification system and exhaust fan will be added to the Men’s Locker Room, and new lockers will be installed. The locker room will remain open, but areas will be sectioned off as the work is in progress. (project time: early-late December) **If you have a rented locker, please remove your belongings by Friday, Dec. 3. We can offer you a temporary digital locker in the hallway if you still have time left on your rental. See the Welcome Center.

In the Gymnasium, the walls will be reinforced and repainted. This area will be closed to members while work is in progress. (project time: late December-early January)

The current Spinning room will be opened up to create a new functional training area, expanding the space available for members in the Wellness Center. The carpet outside the Gymnasium will be replaced with rubber gym flooring. (project time: late December-early January)

If you would prefer not to work out around the renovation, you can take the month off and request by email that your December membership dues be converted to a charitable donation to the Y.

Some members – especially those who only use the pool – have opted to put their membership on hold for December. If you are one of those members and missed the window of opportunity to go on hold, we can make it up to you in January. Just visit or call the Welcome Center and ask.

It’s because of our loyal members that we have had a great first five years and have remained strong, even during the challenges of COVID-19. Thank you once again for standing with us during the next five weeks. It may be a little inconvenient, and occasionally a little dusty, but the end results will be worth it.

Our Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
